Confessions of a Swede
Dannii & Kylie Minogue - The Winner Takes It All
I love ABBA. For us Swedes, ABBA is like Midsummer, sill & meatballs.
They are our most famous band to come out of our country and their music is still going strong and is if possible even more popular than it was 30 years ago.
Too young to have experienced the phenomenon, I got to know ABBA after their goodbye.
5 years old I remember listening to this very song, using it to teach myself the joy of singing.
So ABBA is big, that's purpose of this introduction.
But this is bigger.
Sharing the same hometown as Björn Ulvaeus, he would probably bite my head off for typing this, but it's stronger than me.
Let's start with the vocals. Agnetha is an outstanding singer, no doubt about that, but listening to Dannii sing the first verse, she outshines Agnetha completely.
The blending of the two voices is also something that works better, maybe because of the modern technique or maybe because of these two voices or is it Tezza's magical touch in vocal arrangements?
Moving on to the music. It's more dramatic, you really feel the winner taking it all leaving you to stand there with nothing. It's also more powerful and with the help of the BBC orchestra it creates one of those 'time-stopped' moments that you so rarely come across and you find youself always searching for.
It's pure beauty, musically perfection

The Minogues takes it all!
Yes people as you probably know by now, the full version has leaked! It's starts slow with Dannii kicking off the song. It then goes into a up beat version with Kylie on the second verse.
For those who wants to know, here are the voices in breakdown confirmed by Tezza
[Dannii:]
I dont wanna talk
About the things weve gone through
Though its hurting me
Now its history
Ive played all my cards
And thats what youve done too
Nothing more to sayNo more ace to play
The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
Thats her destiny
[Kylie:]
I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking Id be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules
The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
[Dannii + Kylie:]
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
Its simple and its plain
Why should I complain
[Kylie:]
But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
[Dannii:]
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
[Dannii + Kylie:]
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed
[Dannii and Kylie:]
The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all
[Dannii:]I dont wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
[Kylie:]
And I understand
Youve come to shake my hand
[Dannii:]
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
[Kylie:]
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
[Dannii + Kylie:]
But you see...
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all
(So the winner takes it all)(And the loser has to fall)

The Winner Takes It All
Digital Spy has heard it
Yes, it really does exist.
As rumoured, the sisters Minogue have recorded a cover of ABBA's 'The Winner Takes It All' for the soundtrack of Beautiful People, the new BBC Two comedy that began last Wednesday.
Well, we were watching episode four last night - ah, the joys of working in an office that gets preview discs! - when Dannii and Kylie's duet came on. It plays over a scene where the lead character - a self-described "slightly fey schoolboy from Reading" - becomes a rather unlikely football hero. It's a disco version, both Minogues pull out their best showstopping vocals and if we labelled it "camp", "melodramatic" and "lots of fun" we wouldn't be talking rubbish.By the way, the Beautiful People soundtrack - which also features the Dan Gillespie Sells-sung theme tune and Sophie Ellis Bextor's take on 'Jolene' - comes out on October 20.
Listen to a preview here
"Dannii sings the whole of the first verse - but it's a slow start so I guess this is why the clip starts after the beat has kicked in!
"The version on the soundtrack will be different to the TV version used." Nathan explained.

Dannii confirms the duet
The Winner Takes It All Dannii finally confirmed in her own words in her latest Closer column the ABBA duet with her sister Kylie.
She revealed that they recorded it seperately due to the fact that they both had work commitments, but that they 'polished' the track together in Glasgow where Dannii watched Kylie's X Tour while filming The X Factor.
Persuaded by Ian Masterson, Dannii & Kylie agreed to record the song. They couldn't turn down such a perfect timing and with the BBC orchestra we can just imagine just how stunning it must sound!
It's not the theme tune but it will feature on episode 4 of The Beautiful people, a new comedy show on BBC. The soundtrack will be out on D's birthday, October 20.

Duet update
The duet will be out on Dannii's birthday ,October 20
That's the latest rumour anyway according to this site.
Both Dannii & Kylie are keeping quiet so far so we have no confirmation on this.
"This is more than likely getting a single release now. Everyone involved seems to really like it and think that it could do well. Remixes are being fingered!" a Pop Justice source says.

The SunPINT-SIZED Aussie siblings KYLIE and DANNII MINOGUE have recorded a duet which will be the theme tune for a BBC2 sitcom. The girls have done a version of ABBA’s hit The Winner Takes It All for Beautiful People, to be shown later this year.
The programme is written by Gimme Gimme Gimme creator JONATHAN HARVEY — who’s obviously got a bit of a thing for ABBA.
The comedy series, starring MEERA SYAL, is currently being filmed in glamorous locations including, er, Watford. It’s based on the childhood of British-born writer Simon Doonan, now a bigwig designer at Barney’s department store in New York.

The spokeman for BBC however doesn't want to give away any names and just said:
"Various recording artists have been approached to provide songs to the Beautiful People soundtrack and the soundtrack album but at this stage no acts can be confirmed."
